A small village on the coast between Kuala Terengganu and Dungun. It was once world-famous for giant leatherback turtles coming ashore to nest, but they've all but stopped coming. Today there's a turtle conservation centre and a long, empty beach.

Things to do
- Turtle and Marine Ecosystem CentreThe conservation centre tells the leatherback story and explains the work to protect the turtles that still nest along this coast.Map ↗
- The beachKilometres of sand with hardly anyone on it. Good for a long walk.Map ↗
- DungunThe town is about 20 minutes south, with its big Thursday night market.Map ↗

Good to know
- Don't expect to see leatherbacks. None have been seen nesting here for years.
- Never buy turtle eggs. Egg collection is a big reason the turtles disappeared.
- Only swim when the sea is calm. Waves and currents get strong in the monsoon.
