ranchan recreational park
Rocky pools and small waterfalls for a picnic and a swim, just outside Serian.
- Best time
- March to September is drier. Rain can come in any month, and heavy rain upstream can send a flash flood over the falls.
- How long
- Half a day
- Getting there
- Fly from KL to Kuching (about 1 hour 45 minutes), then drive about 1–1.5 hours on the Kuching–Serian road. The park is about 5 km past Serian town.

Serian's favourite picnic spot, a forest park about 5 km from town where a stream tumbles over rocky ledges into a string of pools. There are huts, barbecue pits, a suspension bridge and a viewing tower. Kuching families fill it on weekends; come on a weekday and you may have a pool to yourself.

Good to know
- Watch for kepala air, the flash floods this stream is known for. If the sky darkens over the hills, you hear rumbling upstream or the water rises and turns muddy, get out at once.
- Weekends and school holidays are crowded. Come on a weekday morning.
