A mountain county in Gangwon, sitting about 700 metres up, that hosted the 2018 Winter Olympics. In winter it's one of Korea's main ski areas. In summer the altitude keeps it cool, and the fir-lined path to Woljeongsa temple is worth the trip in any season.

Good to know
- Temperatures drop well below zero, especially at night. Pack thermals, gloves and a proper jacket.
- Ski gear and clothing can be rented at the resorts and nearby shops, so you don't need to buy everything before you fly.
- Weekdays are much quieter on the slopes than weekends.
