poring hot springs

Soak in hot sulphur tubs, then the canopy walkway and maybe a rafflesia.

Best time
Any time of year, but expect afternoon rain in the rainforest. Weekdays are quieter; weekends and school holidays fill the tubs with local families.
How long
Half a day, or a night if you pair it with Kinabalu Park
Getting there
Fly from KL to Kota Kinabalu (about 2.5 hours), then drive about 2.5 hours via Kinabalu Park and Ranau. Kinabalu Park HQ is about an hour away, so most people combine the two.

A hot spring park in the lowland rainforest of Ranau, part of Kinabalu Park. The sulphur water is piped into open-air tubs, and climbers come down from Mount Kinabalu to soak their legs here. Add a canopy walk, a couple of waterfalls and, if your timing is lucky, a rafflesia in bloom.

Good to know

  • Bring your own towel and a change of clothes. The sulphur smell lingers on swimwear.
  • Leeches come out on the forest trails after rain. Long socks help.
