pisa
The leaning tower, marble cathedral lawns and student streets along the River Arno.
- Best time
- April–June and September–October are good walking weather. July–August is hot and crowded on the open lawns around the tower; winter is quieter, cooler and sometimes wet.
- How long
- 1–2 days
- Getting there
- Fly with one stop to Pisa, usually via Istanbul or Dubai, about 16–18 hours all in. The PisaMover shuttle reaches Pisa Centrale in about 5 minutes, and Florence is about an hour away by train. Italy is 6 hours behind KL in summer and 7 in winter.

Most people come for an hour to prop up the leaning tower, but Pisa is a real university town. Stay the night and walk the Arno riverbanks once the tour coaches have gone.

Good to know
- Time slots for the tower climb sell out in summer, so book ahead on the official Opera della Primaziale site.
- Pisa San Rossore station is a short walk from the tower, but fewer trains stop there than at Pisa Centrale.
- Halal food is limited to a handful of kebab and South Asian places; cecina, pizza and seafood are easy meat-free choices.
