Flat-topped mountain hike to cliff-edge sunrises and pine forests.
- Best time
- The park is closed from June to September for the rainy season. October and November have the most water in the waterfalls, and December to January brings cold nights and red maple leaves.
- How long
- 2 days, 1 night (3 days is more relaxed)
- Getting there
- Fly from KL to Bangkok (about 2 hours), then fly to Loei or Khon Kaen (about 1 hour) and drive about 1.5–2 hours to the park. Overnight buses also run from Bangkok.

A flat-topped sandstone mountain in Loei, with a wide plateau of pine forest, grassland and streams about 1,200 metres up. Getting there means a steep hike of about 5.5 km, then you sleep on top and walk out to cliff edges for sunrise and sunset. It's a classic Thai student trip, so expect company.
Things to do

- Pha Nok AenA cliff-edge viewpoint facing east, the classic spot for sunrise.Map ↗
- Pha Lom SakThe famous cliff with a lone pine tree on its edge, best at sunset.Map ↗
- The waterfall trailA walk through forest past a chain of waterfalls, best soon after the rains.Map ↗
Good to know
- Porters at the base will carry your bags up for a fee, so you only need a day pack.
- Start the climb early in the morning so you reach the top well before dark.
- Book tents or lodges ahead for weekends and holidays, and bring warm clothes. Nights on top get very cold in December and January.
Last checked October 2026. Things change, so check opening times, fees and transport before you go.
