Perth is the closest Australian city to KL and in the same time zone, with Indian Ocean beaches a short drive from the centre. Fremantle's port streets and the quokkas on Rottnest Island fill out a relaxed few days.

Good to know
- Perth's big Malaysian community means halal Malaysian food isn't hard to find; Northbridge and Victoria Park have the most choice.
- Rottnest ferries sell out on summer weekends and can be cancelled in rough seas, so book ahead and keep the day flexible.
