perdana botanical gardens
Big shade trees, a sunken garden and a lake walk in KL's old Lake Gardens.
- Best time
- Any time of year. Come early for cool air and birdsong; the open lawns are hot by late morning, and afternoon storms are common.
- How long
- Half a day
- Getting there
- Take the MRT Kajang line to Muzium Negara and walk about 20 minutes, partly uphill, or take a 10-minute Grab from KL Sentral. Driving from the city centre takes about 15 minutes via Jalan Parlimen, and there's parking inside the gardens.

Most people still call it the Lake Gardens: KL's oldest park, laid out in 1888, with big rain trees, a lake and formal gardens just behind the city centre. The Bird Park, the National Monument and the Islamic Arts Museum are all on its edges, so a morning here fills itself.

Good to know
- The gardens are bigger and hillier than they look; agree on an entrance and a meeting point first.
- Keep food packed away; the monkeys know what a plastic bag means.
