Lobster lunches, Sungai Rengit's fishing-town streets and the south-eastern Johor coast.
- Best time
- Any time for seafood. March to October is better for the coast; the north-east monsoon, roughly November to February, brings rough seas and rain.
- How long
- 1 day
- Getting there
- About 5 hours' drive from KL. From JB it's about 1.5 hours on the Senai–Desaru Expressway, then south from Bandar Penawar to Sungai Rengit.

At the south-eastern tip of the peninsula, Sungai Rengit is a fishing town that people from JB and Singapore drive out to for one thing: lobster. Come with a group so you can share it, along with crab and steamed fish, then catch the sunset at the old jetty.

Things to do
Good to know
- Lobster and crab are sold by weight. Have them weighed in front of you and agree on the cooking style before they go to the kitchen.
- The big seafood restaurants are Chinese-run, so ask before you sit down if you need halal food.
Last checked October 2026. Things change, so check opening times, fees and transport before you go.
