Gritstone edges, limestone dales and Bakewell pudding between country walks.
- Best time
- April–October is best for walking, with lambs in the fields in spring and purple heather on the moors in August. November–February brings mud, short days and snow or ice on the tops.
- How long
- 2–3 days
- Getting there
- Fly direct from KL to London (about 14 hours) on Malaysia Airlines or British Airways, then take the train from St Pancras to Sheffield, about 2 hours, and the Hope Valley line to Hathersage or Edale, 20–35 minutes. Or fly with one stop to Manchester, usually via Dubai, Doha or Istanbul; Edale is about an hour by train from the city. The UK is 7 hours behind KL in summer and 8 in winter.

Britain's first national park sits between Manchester and Sheffield, with green limestone dales in the south and dark gritstone moors in the north. Mix a ridge walk with a village tea room, or keep it gentle on old railway trails.

Good to know
- Edale and Hathersage are on the railway; Bakewell and Chatsworth need a bus or a car.
- Halal food is scarce in the villages; Sheffield's London Road and Manchester's Rusholme have plenty.
