paya indah wetlands

Hippos, a crocodile lake and a boat cruise across old mining lakes near Dengkil.

Best time
Any time of year. Go in the morning, before the open ground heats up and the afternoon storms roll in; the hippos are fed in the morning too. It's closed on Wednesdays, except in school and public holidays.
How long
Half a day
Getting there
About 45 minutes' drive from KL on the ELITE Highway towards KLIA, taking the Gamuda Cove exit; it's next to SplashMania. Without a car, take the MRT Putrajaya line or KLIA Transit to Putrajaya Sentral, then a Grab of about 20 minutes.

A 450-hectare sanctuary of lakes, reed beds and peat swamp on old tin-mining land near Dengkil, gazetted in 1998. Gamuda Land took over the running from Perhilitan in 2024 and calls it Paya Indah Discovery Wetlands: you see it on a guided safari-truck tour, with the hippos and crocodiles as the headline.

Good to know

  • Book a tour slot ahead. Groups go out at set times, and walk-ins can be turned away.
  • Bring hats, water and insect repellent; there's little shade between the lakes.
  • Pair it with SplashMania next door for a full day with the kids.

Last checked October 2026. Things change, so check opening times, fees and transport before you go.
