South Kedah's best-known family beach, at the mouth of the Merbok River with Tanjung Dawai across the water. Erosion has taken much of the sand over the years, so treat it as a picnic-and-sunset beach rather than a swimming one, and pair it with the fish market and tsunami memorial down the road at Kota Kuala Muda.

Good to know

  • The river mouth has tidal currents. Paddle rather than swim, and keep kids close.
  • Coastal works (a breakwater, reclamation and a passenger jetty) are planned between 2026 and 2029, so parts of the shore may be fenced off.
  • Bring a cool box if you're buying fish at the market.

Last checked October 2026. Things change, so check opening times, fees and transport before you go.
