pantai batu buruk

Kites, pony rides and beach stalls frying keropok lekor on Kuala Terengganu's town beach.

Best time
March to September. The north-east monsoon, roughly November to February, brings big waves, wind and rain. The beach faces east, so come at sunrise, or in the late afternoon when the heat drops and the stalls get busy.
How long
Half a day
Getting there
Fly from KL to Kuala Terengganu (about an hour), or drive about 5 hours on the East Coast Expressway. The beach is about 10 minutes' drive south-east of the city centre, along Jalan Pantai Batu Buruk.

Kuala Terengganu's town beach, ten minutes from the centre: a long stretch of sand with a park, playground and food stalls behind it. KT families come in the late afternoon, when the breeze picks up, for kites, pony rides and something fried with chilli sauce.

Good to know

  • It's a beach for walking, not swimming. Currents are strong, and red flags go up in rough weather.
  • Parking fills up on Friday and Saturday evenings, Terengganu's weekend. Weekday evenings are calmer.

Last checked October 2026. Things change, so check opening times, fees and transport before you go.
