pantai balok
A long, flat beach north of Kuantan, known for windsurfing and Thai-style seafood dinners.
- Best time
- March to October is the time for swimming and lazy beach days. From November to January the north-east monsoon brings heavy rain, rough seas and strong wind: good for windsurfers and kitesurfers, no time to swim.
- How long
- Half a day
- Getting there
- About 3–3.5 hours' drive from KL on the Karak Highway and East Coast Expressway. Balok is about 20 minutes north of central Kuantan on the coast road to Cherating.

A long, open beach about 15 km north of Kuantan, wide and flat at low tide. It's the east coast's windsurfing beach and has hosted international events, so on a breezy day there are sails and kites out past the waves. Most people come for a walk, a paddle and a seafood dinner, often on the way to or from Cherating.

Good to know
- Only swim when the sea is flat and there are no warning flags; the monsoon surf and currents are dangerous.
- Weekends bring Kuantan families; on a weekday morning you'll have long stretches to yourself.
