pangkor in 2 days, 1 night

Drive and ferry over in the morning, an afternoon of beach and island hopping at Teluk Nipah with hornbills at dusk, then the temple and Dutch Fort on the east side and a dried seafood run before the ferry home.

  1. Day 1

    Teluk Nipah

    Morning
    Drive from KL to Lumut, about 3 hours, and leave the car at one of the car parks there. The ferry to the island takes about 40 minutes.
    Lunch
    Pink taxi van across the island to Teluk Nipah, about 15 minutes, and lunch near the beach.
    Afternoon
    Take a boat from Teluk Nipah out to Giam or Mentagor for snorkelling, or swim in the calm water off the main beach.
    Evening
    Watch for the hornbills that gather around Teluk Nipah late in the day, then the sunset over the sea.
    Night
    Seafood dinner: the day's catch steamed, fried or grilled.
  2. Day 2

    East side and home

    Morning
    Van or motorbike round to the east side for Fu Lin Kong Temple, with its gardens, ponds and mini Great Wall up the hill. Then a short ride south to the old Dutch Fort at Teluk Gedung.
    Lunch
    Lunch in Pangkor town, near the jetty.
    Afternoon
    Buy satay fish, anchovies and dried squid at the shops in town. Then the ferry back to Lumut and the drive home, about 3 hours.

Good to know

  • Agree the fare before you get into a pink van, or rent a motorbike to get around.
  • Check the time of the last ferry back to Lumut so you don't get stuck.
  • Long weekends bring crowds and ferry queues. Set off early to beat them.
