West Sumatra's capital and the home of Minangkabau food, which most Malaysians already know as nasi padang. It's a laid-back coastal city with a sunset seafront and an old riverside quarter, good for a serious makan stop before heading up to Bukittinggi.

Good to know
- At a rumah makan, lots of dishes come to your table at once. You only pay for what you eat.
- Pair it with Bukittinggi. Most people spend a night here, then move up to the cooler highlands.
