Oxford's colleges hide behind the shops and lanes of an ordinary city centre, so you step through a gate into a medieval quad. Mix a college or two with the libraries, a museum and a punt on the river.

Good to know

  • Halal is easy along Cowley Road, just over Magdalen Bridge, with Pakistani, Turkish and Middle Eastern places.
  • Each college sets its own visiting times, and many close to visitors around exams in May and June.
