- Best time
- October–February is warm and dry. Dasara, in September or October, brings ten days of processions and a fully lit palace, with crowds to match. April–May is hot and June–September is showery.
- How long
- 2 days
- Getting there
- Fly direct from KL to Bengaluru (about 4 hours). Mysuru is about 3.5–4 hours by road from the airport, or 2–3 hours by train from Bengaluru city. India is 2.5 hours behind KL.

Mysuru is a relaxed old royal city of palaces, markets and long breakfasts. It's an easy few days after Bengaluru, with time for a proper masala dosa and coffee between sights.

Things to do
- Mysuru PalaceThe Wodeyar kings' palace, a riot of stained glass, painted ceilings and carved doors. On Sundays and festival nights it's outlined in thousands of bulbs.Map ↗
- Devaraja MarketA century-old covered market of jasmine garlands, heaps of coloured kumkum powder, bananas and incense.Map ↗
- Chamundi HillA temple-topped hill above the city, with about a thousand steps and a giant stone Nandi bull on the way up.Map ↗
- SrirangapatnaTipu Sultan's island capital, half an hour away, with his painted summer palace and the remains of his fort.Map ↗
Good to know
- Mandi Mohalla, the Muslim quarter near the palace, is the place for halal biryani and kebabs; vegetarian breakfast places are everywhere.
- During Dasara, roads around the palace close for the processions, so a hotel within walking distance helps.
