Muzium Samudera is the big wooden ship by the mouth of the Melaka River: a replica of the Flor de la Mar, the Portuguese carrack said to have gone down with Melaka's treasure on its way home after the conquest of 1511. Inside and below decks, old maps, paintings, ship models and trade goods tell the story of the port from the sultanate to the British. It reopened in October 2023 after a repaint.

Good to know

  • The ship's stairs are steep and narrow, so leave the pushchair in the car.
  • The Sultanate Palace, A Famosa and St Paul's Hill are all within a 10-minute walk, so one parking spot covers the morning.

Last checked October 2026. Things change, so check opening times, fees and transport before you go.
