Bali's neighbour to the east, similar in size but much quieter. The south has surf beaches around Kuta, the north has waterfalls and Mount Rinjani, and the Gili Islands sit just off the northwest coast. Most people are Sasak and Muslim, so you'll see mosques everywhere alongside the beaches.

Good to know
- Lombok is mostly Muslim. Cover up when you leave the beach, especially in villages and at mosques.
- Distances are bigger than they look and public transport is thin. Hire a car with a driver for day trips.
