lojing highlands

Cool farm country past Cameron, and guided walks to see a rafflesia in bloom.

Best time
February to September is usually drier for forest walks, but showers come any month. Rafflesia has no flowering season, so ask a guide what's blooming before you drive up.
How long
1 day, or add it to a Cameron trip
Getting there
About 4 hours' drive from KL: the North–South Expressway to Simpang Pulai, then Route 185 past Cameron's Blue Valley into Kelantan. Gua Musang is about 1.5 hours further on.

The Kelantan side of the Cameron Highlands road, where Route 185 runs past vegetable farms and forest towards Gua Musang. It's cooler and much quieter than Cameron, and the big draw is rafflesia: local Temiar guides lead walks to whichever blooms are open.

Good to know

  • Never touch a rafflesia or step off the path. The buds are easy to crush.
  • Bring a jacket and rain gear. It's cool up here and showers come fast.
  • Farms and Orang Asli villages are homes and workplaces. Ask before walking in or taking photos.
