loagan bunut
Sarawak's biggest natural lake, with traditional Berawan fishing and birdlife.
- Best time
- Water levels change a lot. The lake can shrink to mud for a few weeks, often around February and again around June or July, which is when the selambau fishing happens. Ask the park about conditions first.
- How long
- 2 days, 1 night
- Getting there
- Fly from KL to Miri, about 2 hours 15 minutes, then about 3 hours by road, the last part on plantation roads.

A national park around Sarawak's largest natural lake, deep in the Miri hinterland. The shallow lake rises and falls with the nearby rivers, and when it drops, the local Berawan people fish it with the selambau, a big scoop net on a floating frame.

Good to know
- Call the park about lake levels and rooms before you go.
- A 4WD is safer for the last stretch, especially after rain.
- Bring insect repellent. The lake edges get buggy at dusk.
