liverpool
Beatles landmarks, Anfield and red-brick docks beside the Mersey.
- Best time
- April–September is best for the docks and riverfront, with July–August the busiest. November–February is wet, windy and dark early; the football season runs from August to May, and match days fill the city.
- How long
- 2–3 days
- Getting there
- Fly direct from KL to London (about 14 hours) on Malaysia Airlines or British Airways, then take the train from Euston to Liverpool Lime Street, just over 2 hours. Or fly with one stop to Manchester, usually via Dubai, Doha or Istanbul; Liverpool is about an hour away by train. The UK is 7 hours behind KL in summer and 8 in winter.

Liverpool made its fortune from its port, and the waterfront of old docks and grand buildings is still its best side. Add the Beatles, football and an evening on Bold Street.

Good to know
- Halal is easy: Lodge Lane in Toxteth is lined with Yemeni, Somali and South Asian places, and Bold Street has several more.
- The Maritime Museum and International Slavery Museum on the dock are closed for redevelopment until about 2028; the Museum of Liverpool next door is open.
- Match tickets are hard to get and only safe through the club; the stadium tour runs on non-match days.
