A quiet northern city on the Wang River, about 100 km south-east of Chiang Mai. It's the only town in Thailand where horse-drawn carriages still carry visitors around, and it has some of the north's finest old teak temples and houses.

Good to know
- Rooster bowls are heavy and fragile. Ask the shop to pack them well for the flight.
- Agree the route and price of a carriage ride before you set off.
