The main town of Hulu Terengganu, on the Terengganu River, and the last stop before Kenyir Lake. It was the first capital of the modern Terengganu sultanate, and the Batu Bersurat, one of the earliest records of Islam and Jawi writing in the Malay world, was found nearby in 1899.
