krabi in 4 days, 3 nights
Based in Ao Nang: a lazy first afternoon on the beach, a day on Railay, a morning of island hopping with Krabi Town's night market after, and Tiger Cave Temple before the flight home. Go between November and April, when the sea is calm.
Day 1 Arrive in Ao Nang
- Morning
- Fly from KL to Krabi, about 1.5 hours, then drive about 40 minutes to Ao Nang.
- Lunch
- Southern Thai curries near the hotel. They're hotter and sourer than in the rest of Thailand, so ask for less chilli if you need to.
- Afternoon
- Swim and laze on Ao Nang beach, with limestone cliffs at either end.
- Evening
- Watch the sunset from the beach, then have grilled fish and prawns at the seafood places along Ao Nang.
Day 2 Railay
- Morning
- Longtail boat from Ao Nang beach to Railay, about 15 minutes. There are no roads in, only cliffs and sand.
- Lunch
- Lunch at one of the restaurants along Railay West.
- Afternoon
- Walk a few minutes across to Phra Nang beach, with its cave and cliffs, and watch the climbers. Beginners can book a half-day climbing session.
- Evening
- Longtail back to Ao Nang before dark, and dinner in town.
Day 3 Island hopping and Krabi Town
- Morning
- Join an early Four Islands or Hong Islands tour by longtail or speedboat, for sandbars, lagoons and snorkelling.
- Lunch
- Lunch is usually included on the tour.
- Afternoon
- Back in Ao Nang by mid-afternoon. Rest and wash off the salt.
- Evening
- Drive about 30 minutes to Krabi Town for dinner at the night market by the river.
Day 4 Tiger Cave Temple and home
- Morning
- Go early to Tiger Cave Temple, about 40 minutes from Ao Nang, and climb the 1,260 steps to the view over the whole province before the heat sets in.
- Lunch
- Lunch in Krabi Town, about 15 minutes away.
- Afternoon
- On to the airport, about 20 minutes, for the flight home.
Good to know
- National park fees apply on many island tours, so carry cash.
- Book the earliest boat tours to beat the crowds. Want Phi Phi and Maya Bay too? Add a day rather than squeezing it in.
- Take water up Tiger Cave Temple and keep a hand on your bags. The monkeys on the steps grab at food.
