Car-free river island near Bangkok for Mon pottery and weekend snack stalls.
- Best time
- Weekends are livelier, with more stalls open but bigger crowds. Weekdays are quieter but many shops close. November to February is the coolest time to walk around.
- How long
- Half a day
- Getting there
- Fly from KL to Bangkok (about 2 hours). From central Bangkok, it's about an hour by taxi or Grab to Pak Kret, then a short ferry across from Wat Sanam Nuea.

A small island in the Chao Phraya River on Bangkok's northern edge, cut off when a shortcut canal was dug in the 1700s. It's home to Mon communities known for their pottery, and there are hardly any cars, just lanes, temples and snack stalls. An easy half-day escape from the city.

Good to know
- Come on a weekend for the stalls, but go early before the crowds arrive.
- Bring cash. Most stalls don't take cards.
