Cool hill roads, morning cloud layers and a mosaic-covered temple on the ridge.
- Best time
- November to February brings cool days and chilly mornings, when the mist is most likely. March to May is hot, peaking in April, and July to September is wet, with clouds that can hide the views.
- How long
- 2–3 days
- Getting there
- Fly to Bangkok's Don Mueang airport (about 2 hours from KL) and connect to Phitsanulok (about 1 hour), then drive about 1.5–2 hours into the hills. Thailand is 1 hour behind KL.

A range of cool green hills in Phetchabun, with winding roads, viewpoints over valleys full of morning mist and hillside cafés. It's road-trip country: drive between lookouts, farms and the mosaic temple at Khaem Son.

Good to know
- You'll need a car: the viewpoints and cafés are spread out along winding roads with no pavements.
- Stay near the viewpoint you want for sunrise, so it's a short drive before dawn.
- Halal food is scarce in the hills. Grilled fish, egg dishes and fruit are the easy fallback.
