khajuraho
Carved sandstone temples, village lanes and rocky river gorges in central India.
- Best time
- November–March is best for walking between temples. April–June brings severe heat, and July–September is green and wet, with the waterfalls nearby at their fullest.
- How long
- 2 days
- Getting there
- Fly direct from KL to Delhi (about 5.5 hours). The Vande Bharat train from Delhi's Hazrat Nizamuddin station reaches Khajuraho in about 8 hours, and in the winter season there are flights from Delhi of about an hour. India is 2.5 hours behind KL.

Khajuraho is a small town in central India built around a group of thousand-year-old temples, covered in carvings of gods, dancers, musicians, warriors and, famously, lovers. Two days gives time for the main temples, the quieter Jain group and the countryside around.

Good to know
- A guide for the Western Group helps make sense of the carvings, most of which show everyday life rather than the famous erotic scenes.
- Food in town is mostly vegetarian North Indian, and halal meat is hard to find.
