kampung pulai
An old Hakka village under limestone hills, with a Guanyin temple and a cave across the river.
- Best time
- March to October. Heavy rain and floods from about November to January can make the river crossing and cave steps unsafe. Chinese New Year and Guanyin's festival days bring crowds.
- How long
- Half a day
- Getting there
- Drive to Gua Musang, about 5 hours from KL via Bentong, Raub and Kuala Lipis, then about 15 minutes south to the village.

A Hakka village about 15 minutes south of Gua Musang, said to have been founded centuries ago by Chinese gold miners. It makes a slow, pretty half day: the Water and Moon Temple by the river, a hanging bridge over the Galas River and a cave shrine up in the limestone.

Good to know
- The village eateries are Chinese and not halal. Muslim friends can eat in Gua Musang town.
- Skip the cave steps and the river path after heavy rain.
- Keep your voice down in the temple and ask before photographing people at prayer.
