Korea's biggest cherry blossom festival, with pink tunnels over a stream and railway.

Best time
Late March to early April, when the trees bloom and the festival runs. The exact dates shift each year with the weather, so check the bloom forecast before booking. The rest of the year it's a sleepy navy town.

Getting there
Fly from KL to Busan (about 6 hours). Jinhae is about an hour from Busan by car or intercity bus, and closer still from Gimhae Airport. Expect slow traffic during the festival.

A quiet naval port on a bay ringed by pine-covered hills, now part of Changwon city. For about ten days each spring it hosts Korea's biggest cherry blossom festival, Jinhae Gunhangje, when its streets, stream and old railway line disappear under pink.

Good to know

  • Go on a weekday and arrive early. Weekend crowds and traffic during the festival are intense.
  • Parking near the festival is hard to find, so take the bus from Busan if you can.
  • The navy base is a military area. Follow the rules on where you can walk and what you can photograph.
