South Korea's biggest island, a volcanic one with Hallasan at its centre, about an hour's flight south of Seoul. It's where Koreans go on holiday, for waterfalls, lava cliffs, tangerine farms, beaches and plenty of seaside cafés.

Good to know
- Rent a car to get around. Korea drives on the right, and you'll need an International Driving Permit.
- Weather changes fast on Hallasan. Bring layers and start early.
- If you fly in via Seoul, mainland Korea's entry rules apply, so check whether you need a K-ETA.
Last checked October 2026. Things change, so check opening times, fees and transport before you go.
