jangkar waterfall
A tough boulder-hopping river trek to a powerful waterfall and deep pool west of Lundu.
- Best time
- March to September, and only on a dry day: the river section isn't safe after rain or when rain is coming. November to February brings the heaviest rain, so skip it then.
- How long
- 1 day
- Getting there
- Fly from KL to Kuching (about 1 hour 45 minutes), then drive about 2–2.5 hours towards Lundu and on towards Biawak. The trail starts at Kampung Jantan, where you park and find a guide. Allow about 2 hours on foot each way.

A powerful waterfall on the slopes of the Berumput range, west of Lundu near the Indonesian border, dropping into a huge, deep pool. Getting there is half the fun: an easy walk through farm plots, then about an hour of scrambling up the Jangkar river over big boulders. It's for fit, sure-footed groups with a local guide.

Good to know
- Go with a guide from the village. The river section has no trail, and the crossings are tricky.
- Don't go after rain or with storms about. The river rises fast.
- Wear shoes with real grip and keep your phone and lunch in a dry bag.
