Harbour markets, island fortresses and public saunas on the Baltic.
- Best time
- May–September is best for ferries and outdoor markets, with very long days in June. November–March is cold and dark, so winter visits work best around museums and saunas.
- How long
- 2–3 days
- Getting there
- Fly with one stop, usually via Singapore, Doha or Istanbul, about 16–18 hours all in. The airport train reaches the centre in about 30 minutes. Finland is 5 hours behind KL in summer and 6 in winter.

Helsinki faces the Baltic with a harbour market, ferries to an island fortress and a skyline of pale neoclassical buildings. Add design shops and a proper Finnish sauna, and it makes an easy, calm city break.

- Public saunaA sauna and a cold dip in the sea, at places like Löyly or the Allas Sea Pool.Map ↗
Good to know
- The airport is in HSL zone C, so you need an ABC ticket from there; an AB ticket covers the centre and the Suomenlinna ferry.
- Halal kebab and Middle Eastern places are easy to find in Helsinki; in smaller Finnish towns they thin out fast.
