havelock island
Wide white beaches, reef dives and forest lanes on India's Andaman islands.
- Best time
- November–April has the calmest seas and clearest water. May is changeable, and the June–September monsoon brings rough seas that can cancel ferries and dives.
- How long
- 4–5 days
- Getting there
- No direct flights from KL. Fly with one stop, usually via Chennai or Kolkata, to Port Blair, now officially Sri Vijaya Puram (about 8–11 hours all in). Ferries on to Havelock take about 1.5–2.5 hours. India is 2.5 hours behind KL.

Havelock, officially renamed Swaraj Dweep, is the Andaman island for white beaches backed by tall forest, clear water and easy diving. Give it several slow days, with a buffer for the ferry.

Good to know
- A night in Port Blair before the flight home is worth it, since a cancelled ferry can otherwise cost you the flight.
- Foreigners need their passport to book and board the ferries.
- Halal isn't standard on Havelock; seafood and South Indian vegetarian food are the easy options.
