halifax
A working harbour, maritime stories, lobster rolls and Atlantic coastal day trips.
- Best time
- June–October are best for the waterfront and coastal trips, with autumn colour in October. Fog rolls in even in summer, and late-summer storms can cancel boat trips; winter is cold and windy.
- How long
- 2–3 days
- Getting there
- Fly with one stop via London, where Air Canada flies to Halifax, or with two via Toronto or Montreal, about 22–27 hours all in. The airport is 30–40 minutes from downtown. Halifax is 11 hours behind KL, 12 from November to early March. Malaysians need a Canadian visitor visa, or just an eTA if flying in with a valid US visa or a Canadian visa held in the last 10 years.

Halifax is a harbour city with a long waterfront boardwalk, a hilltop fort and centuries of seafaring stories. It's the start of most Nova Scotia road trips, and worth a couple of slow days itself.

Good to know
- At Peggy's Cove, stay off the dark, wet rocks; waves sweep people off them.
- Halal is easy enough in Halifax, with halal donair shops and Middle Eastern places; the chowders usually aren't.
