gunung yong yap
A remote G7 summit reached by river crossings and forest camps from the Lojing side.
- Best time
- March to September. River crossings turn dangerous after heavy rain, and the north-east monsoon, roughly November to February, is no time to go.
- How long
- 3 days, 2 nights
- Getting there
- About 4 hours' drive from KL to Lojing via Simpang Pulai and Route 185, then a 4WD past Rengil to the river trailhead, arranged by your guide. The other route, from Kuala Mu near Sungai Siput, is on the Perak side.

At 2,168 metres, Yong Yap is one of the G7 peaks on the Kelantan–Perak border. From Kelantan the route starts near Rengil in Lojing, and most groups do a three-day circuit with Gunung Bubu and Gunung Tok Nenek: about 42 km with many river crossings. It's strictly for experienced hikers, with a licensed guide and a permit.

Things to do
Good to know
- A licensed mountain guide (malim gunung) and a forestry permit are compulsory. Book through an organiser who also arranges the 4WD.
- Leave river-crossing calls to the guide, and be ready to turn back if the water rises.
- Carry all your rubbish out, and be respectful in the Orang Asli villages you pass.
