gunung senyum
A limestone hill with 19 caves in the Jengka forest, and a legend of a bunian bride.
- Best time
- March to October. Pahang Forestry closes its eco-parks for the north-east monsoon from about November, and in 2025 Gunung Senyum stayed shut until 1 March while it was being upgraded. Mornings are cooler for the scramble into the caves.
- How long
- 1 day
- Getting there
- About 2.5 hours' drive from KL: the Karak Highway and East Coast Expressway to Temerloh, then about an hour north on the road towards Jengka. There's no public transport to the park.

A limestone hill rising out of the oil palm north of Temerloh, kept as a Forestry eco-park. There are 19 caves in it, with stalactites, columns and traces of Stone Age people who sheltered here. Spend a day poking into a few caves and walking the forest, or stay the night in the chalets.

Things to do
- The cavesGua Angin, Gua Terang Bulan and the Gua Taman pair are among the 19. Most are dark and uneven inside, so bring a torch and go with someone who knows them.Map ↗
- Gua Makam Tok LongThe cave with the grave of Tok Long, a nobleman who, the story goes, married a bunian, a spirit from the unseen world, broke his promise to her and never saw her again.Map ↗
- Gunung Jebak PuyuhThe smaller limestone hill next door, with five more caves and a jungle trek to reach them.Map ↗
- A night in the forestStay in the chalets, dormitory or campsite for an evening walk to look for frogs and insects.Map ↗
Good to know
- Register at the park office first. Don't climb the hill in or after rain; wet limestone is very slippery.
- Wear shoes with grip and leave the cave formations untouched.
