gunung ledang
Legendary princess mountain with waterfall dips and a tough summit hike.
- Best time
- Avoid the wettest months at the end of the year. Start early whatever the season: the trail turns to mud in afternoon rain, and the waterfalls get busy on weekends.
- How long
- 1 day, or 2 days, 1 night if you camp on the summit trail
- Getting there
- About 2.5 hours' drive from KL on the North–South Expressway, exiting at Tangkak. From Melaka it's about an hour.

At 1,276 m, Gunung Ledang (once called Mount Ophir) is Johor's highest peak, rising near where Johor, Melaka and Negeri Sembilan meet. It's tied to the legend of Puteri Gunung Ledang, the princess who set the Sultan of Melaka impossible conditions for her hand. Most people come for the waterfalls at its foot; the fit come for the summit.

Good to know
- Summit climbs must be booked with Johor National Parks in advance, with a licensed guide. Cut-off times at the checkpoints are enforced.
- Don't swim in the waterfall pools after heavy rain. The water rises quickly.
