gunung besar hantu
A long climb through Kenaboi's rainforest to Negeri Sembilan's highest summit.
- Best time
- Drier spells, usually February and June to August, are best; the steep top section is slippery and full of leeches after rain. The state forestry department has shut its forest trails at the start of past year-end monsoons (from 1 December 2022 and 28 November 2025), so December trips are a gamble.
- How long
- 1 long day, or 2 days with a night at camp
- Getting there
- About 2–2.5 hours' drive from KL through Hulu Langat and Kuala Klawang to Taman Negeri Kenaboi. Groups usually meet their guide in Kuala Klawang before dawn.

At 1,462 metres, Gunung Besar Hantu is the highest peak in Negeri Sembilan and in the whole southern half of the peninsula. The trail starts in Taman Negeri Kenaboi in Jelebu and climbs past the Sungai Kering and Kem Orkid camps to mossy upper slopes: a long, hard day, and one you need a registered mountain guide for.

Good to know
- A forestry-registered mountain guide (malim gunung) has been compulsory here since 1 October 2025. Book one ahead, and get the Kenaboi permit at the park office or on N9Pay.
- Expect 8–12 hours on the trail. Start at first light and carry a headlamp, a rain layer and enough water.
Last checked October 2026. Things change, so check opening times, fees and transport before you go.
