green island
Snorkel coral reefs by day, soak in a rare seawater hot spring by night.
- Best time
- May to September, when the sea is calmer and the water is warm. From late autumn to spring, the north-east monsoon makes the ferry rough and often cancelled. Summer weekends are packed.
- How long
- 2 days, 1 night
- Getting there
- Fly from KL to Taipei (about 5 hours), then fly on to Taitung (about an hour) or take the train (about 3.5–4.5 hours). From Taitung's Fugang Harbour, the ferry takes about 50 minutes; small planes also fly over from Taitung airport.

A small volcanic island off Taiwan's south-east coast, ringed by coral reefs and a single coastal road. Once a prison island for political detainees during martial law, it's now a summer escape for snorkelling, scooter rides and its seawater hot spring.

Good to know
- Take seasickness pills before the ferry. The crossing can be rough.
- Book ferries and rooms early for summer weekends.
- Don't touch or stand on the coral, and use reef-safe sunscreen.
