Trams, cinnamon buns and ferries to rocky islands on Sweden's west coast.
- Best time
- May–September is best for the islands and outdoor cafés. Summer still has showers; November–February is wet, windy and dark.
- How long
- 2–3 days
- Getting there
- Fly with one stop, usually via Amsterdam or Istanbul, about 17–19 hours all in. The airport coach takes about 30 minutes to the centre. Sweden is 6 hours behind KL in summer and 7 in winter.

Gothenburg is Sweden's relaxed west-coast city of trams, canals and seafood. A tram and a ferry take you out to car-free islands of smooth pink-grey rock.

Good to know
- A Västtrafik day ticket covers the trams and the island ferries, so you can go straight from the city to Saltholmen and out to sea.
- Halal kebab and Middle Eastern places are easy to find in the city, but the islands have little food, so bring a picnic.
