Big art collections, Victorian streets and live music in Scotland's largest city.

Best time
April–October is best for mixing museums with walks, with long light evenings in May–June. November–February is wet and dark by four, but the free museums and live music keep the city going all year.
How long
2–3 days
Getting there
Fly with one stop, usually via London, Amsterdam or Dubai, about 17–19 hours all in. The airport bus reaches the city centre in about 20 minutes. From London it's also about 4.5 hours by train from Euston. The UK is 7 hours behind KL in summer and 8 in winter.

Scotland's biggest city has grand Victorian streets, free museums and one of Britain's best live-music scenes. The West End is for cafés and university cloisters; the centre is for shopping, murals and nights out.

Good to know

  • Halal is easy: the Southside around Pollokshields has the most choice, and there's plenty more in the centre and the West End.
  • The little orange Subway loop links the city centre with the West End in a few minutes.
