Fujian's capital, nicknamed the banyan city, and the home region of the Foochow people who settled in Sibu and Sitiawan. Its restored old lanes are good for a slow day of courtyards and snacks, with wooded hills and hot springs in town.

Good to know
- Gushan is a long stair climb, so give it a half-day.
- Many Fuzhou snacks hide pork or lard. Lanzhou-style halal noodle shops (look for the qingzhen, 清真, signs) are the easy halal option.
