essaouira
Blue fishing boats, Atlantic ramparts and grilled fish in a compact whitewashed medina.
- Best time
- April–May and September–October are mild and less windy. Summer is much cooler than inland Morocco but very windy, which suits kitesurfers; winter brings some wet days.
- How long
- 2–3 days
- Getting there
- Fly with one stop to Marrakesh, usually via Istanbul or Doha, about 18–20 hours all in. Essaouira is about 3 hours west by bus or car. Morocco is 8 hours behind KL.

Essaouira is a small, breezy Atlantic port, with a whitewashed medina behind old sea walls and blue fishing boats in the harbour. It's an easy place to slow down after Marrakesh, with fish lunches and long beach walks.
