desaru in 2 days, 1 night
Drive down for an afternoon at the water park and a beach walk, then sunrise over the South China Sea and a fruit farm tour before heading home. Go between March and October for calmer seas, and mid-year for durian.
Day 1 Water park and beach
- Morning
- Drive from KL, about 4 hours, the last hour from JB on the Senai–Desaru Expressway. Or fly to Senai, about an hour, and drive about an hour from there.
- Lunch
- Lunch near the resorts.
- Afternoon
- Desaru Coast Adventure Waterpark, with slides, a wave pool and a lazy river.
- Evening
- A walk on the long sandy beach as it cools down, then dinner at the resort.
Day 2 Sunrise and fruit
- Morning
- The beach faces east, so get up for the sunrise over the South China Sea. Swim near the lifeguard areas if the sea is calm.
- Lunch
- Lunch near the resorts, then check out.
- Afternoon
- Desaru Fruit Farm, a short drive away, for a tour of the orchards with tastings, and durian in season. Then drive home, about 4 hours.
Good to know
- Swim near the lifeguard areas. The open coast gets strong currents, especially in the monsoon.
- You'll want a car, as public transport to Desaru is limited.
- Got an extra day? Detour about an hour inland to Kota Tinggi Waterfall for a cool dip in the pools below the falls.
