Davos is a long valley town at 1,560 metres, more working resort than chalet village, with ski areas on both sides and a lake at its northern end. It grew up as a cure resort for tuberculosis patients, the world of Thomas Mann's The Magic Mountain, and the World Economic Forum meets here each January.

Good to know
- Davos Dorf is the stop for Parsenn and the lake; Davos Platz is for Jakobshorn and Schatzalp.
- Skip World Economic Forum week unless that's why you're going; hotels book out and security closes parts of town.
- Halal meat is hard to find here, and local soups and dumplings often hide dried meat, so potato and cheese dishes are the easy fallback.
