Cool, swaying bamboo forest at Juknokwon and a tree-lined metasequoia road.
- Best time
- Any season works. Summer is when the bamboo shade feels best, and November turns the metasequoias a rusty orange. The bamboo festival is held in early May.
- How long
- A day trip from Gwangju
- Getting there
- Fly from KL to Seoul (about 6.5 hours). Take the KTX to Gwangju Songjeong (about 2 hours), then it's about 30 to 40 minutes by bus or taxi to Damyang.

A small county just north of Gwangju, known across Korea for bamboo. Its bamboo forest park, Juknokwon, stays cool and shady even in summer, and the long avenue of metasequoia trees nearby is one of the most photographed roads in the country.
