The best-known of Thailand's floating markets, about 100 km south-west of Bangkok. Vendors in wooden boats sell food, fruit and souvenirs along the canals. It's very touristy now, but still a fun half day, especially if you have breakfast from the boats.

Things to do

  1. Boat ride along the canalsHire a rowing boat or longtail and drift between the floating stalls.Map ↗
  2. Maeklong Railway MarketA market where stalls pull back their awnings each time a train rolls through, about 30 minutes away.Map ↗
  3. Amphawa Floating MarketA more local evening floating market nearby, open on weekends.Map ↗

Good to know

  • Agree the price of a boat ride before you get in.
  • Bargain for souvenirs. They're usually cheaper elsewhere in Bangkok.
