cotswolds
Stone cottages, little river bridges and footpaths between sheep fields.
- Best time
- April–June brings green fields and cottage gardens in flower, and September–October has autumn colour. July–August is good weather, but the best-known villages fill with coach tours; November–February brings mud and early dark.
- How long
- 2–3 days
- Getting there
- Fly direct from KL to London (about 14 hours) on Malaysia Airlines or British Airways, then take the train from Paddington to Moreton-in-Marsh, about 1.5 hours. Buses between villages are infrequent, so a hire car makes village-hopping much easier. The UK is 7 hours behind KL in summer and 8 in winter.

The Cotswolds is a spread of honey-coloured stone villages across rolling sheep country, not a single town. Pick a base, see a few villages and walk the footpaths between them.

Good to know
- Bibury and Bourton fill with day-trip coaches by late morning; stay the night to see them quiet.
- Halal food is scarce in the villages, so a cottage with a kitchen helps; Oxford's Cowley Road, about 40 minutes from Moreton-in-Marsh by train, has plenty.
